I’ve been having a lot of fun in Minecraft recently. I don’t really like this time of year in terms of gaming, winter seems so far away and this year especially so with the new consoles on the horizon. Of course all developers are working on games for then, so this time of year I try and catch up with the gaming backlog. The backlog of games that I have bought, but haven’t finished, or gotten all the achievements I’ve wanted to get. Minecraft is one of those backlog games, I dropped it as soon as a new game came out, and spent many months playing Mass Effect and Borderlands over and over. I hear that new DLC including a level cap increase to level 72 will be out next week though for Borderlands. I can definitely see myself getting my Siren and my Psycho up to level 72.
The best thing about Minecraft, however, is that I can play it with my daughter. I have to play it on peaceful though and therefore creative because she’s scared of the googlies. I do have a survival mode on the go as well, but I play that when she’s in bed. She’s driven and helped build some of our world though, and she always has fantastic ideas. I also found a YouTube channel all about Minecraft which we can watch together. Here’s one of Stampy Cat’s videos:-
I have to give him a shout out as a lot of her ideas came from watching his channel and well he is one of the rare Minecraft YouTubers that are family orientated, credit where credit is due! She laughs so much watching his videos and I enjoy them too.
Anyway, back to my world. I have finished my massive house, which, on the inside is a replica of Anderson’s apartment from the Citadel DLC in Mass Effect 3. It’s a shame I had no clue what the outside looks like, although it was cool to try and design my own.
Anderson’s apartment/house exterior.
I think, to show the interior, I’ll have a go at doing a video tour whilst showing pictures of Anderson’s actual apartment.
The city centre is where my little one and I have mostly worked together. We have a TARDIS, a cake shop, biodomes, a pet store, and an office building.
The TARDIS is a portal to the nether, and we had the idea of making the interior a sort of rollercoaster with some Daleks and stuff. The only thing is, since the TU12 update, mine carts are so slow, it’s not really a rollercoaster anymore, more, a boring long train ride.
We have had a lot of fun building our city so far, the interiors are all completed as well, the cake shop is a cafe, and the pet store has all different pets you can adopt, including the new Ocelots/cats.
In real life, I’ve just upgraded my laptop, and well, I found that there is a steep learning curve in not using Windows anymore. However, I’m starting to get the hang of things now, and I can actually play the PC edition of Minecraft with best settings – render distance far, maximum FPS. The PC version, wow, it’s a long way in front of the console version, I take back what I said about it being “A little bit in front”. However, now that I have gotten used to the console version, I still prefer to play Minecraft on Xbox. The controls are simpler, and I find it flows better. My little one and I are looking forward to when we get name tags, horses, and leads on the console version though, as we had so much fun riding a horse around while pulling a pig we named, “Piggy Wig”, on a lead.
I have looked at updating Photoshop for my new MacBook, but they now want a monthly subscription and I found it quite confusing, something like you need to have a subscription to creative cloud, and then a subscription to the apps you want. I would prefer to buy my software and have it forever instead of it being a subscription for an undefined period of time (You pay monthly for at least a year). Instead of doing all this, I’ve been looking in the app store at the design software, and purchased iDraw. It’s cool, but the pen tool can sometimes make messy vectors, and I have no clue how to work the eraser, sometimes it just doesn’t work properly and I tend to rely on my eraser a lot, it’s easier to make a big block of black, then erase it to get a smooth edge. Once I’ve found an app that suits me I will be back creating lovely things and comics for this blog :).
If you understand the new Photoshop CC better than I do, feel free to correct me in the comments
